How do ball bearings work?
Ball bearings support relative rotation with balls rolling between inner and outer rings. The balls spin on their own axes while their centers travel around the bearing. A cage keeps neighboring balls separated. In this model, the outer ring is fixed and the inner ring turns, so rolling at both contacts makes the cage orbit more slowly than the shaft.
