How does a refrigerator work?
A refrigerator moves heat from its food compartment into the room using refrigerant that evaporates and condenses in a loop. A compressor raises the refrigerant's pressure and temperature, the condenser at the back releases heat to the room as the vapour turns to liquid, a narrow capillary tube drops the pressure, and the evaporator inside absorbs heat as the liquid boils back to vapour. The compressor adds energy, so the room receives the heat taken from the food plus the compressor's work.
